You have likely heard about the many benefits of meditation, and it’s also likely you have a few friends and family members who have urged you to find some time for yourself, relax, chill, or take a moment. What better time to do so than when you’re on a getaway at a resort full of places to breathe in beauty and adventure and exhale worries and stress.

Meditation for Beginners

Meditation for Beginners is one of the many fitness and wellness classes offered through the Woodlands Spa’s Fitness Center and the Holistic Healing Center. In this one-hour class, you’ll experience a taste of inner freedom as you melt away anxiety, stress, wandering thoughts, difficulties, and tension. You’ll be guided through gentle spine-strengthening techniques that will ease sitting on the floor (with practice for some), and you’ll experience tips to find peace and calm in your daily life. This class is for beginners, but all are welcome.

The Holistic Healing Center offers Meditation for Beginners with instructor Paloma Shandor. She has studied yoga and meditation concentration for more than 30 years. Through a session with her, you’ll come to understand a bit more about yourself and your breathing.

What You’ll Experience

As Paloma invites you to be seated, she’ll teach you a yoga posture where you’ll sit on a comfortable cushion, position your feet, lengthen your spine, and relax your hands as you settle into a calming rhythm of breath. Paloma will chant a few words inviting you to further relax as you release the tension from the top of your head to the bottoms of your feet.

You’ll breathe in and breathe out in a way that is comfortable, relaxing, refreshing, and without sound. You’ll shift your breathing and awareness as Paloma’s gentle voice encourages. She’ll draw you toward consciously pondering your physical posture, your speech, your breathing, and your physical movement.

The stress will disappear.
The tension will go away.
The worries will be distant.

Sitting motionless, you’ll go to a place in your mind where quietness, stillness, and knowing are pleasantly found. The gentle motions, the relaxing thoughts, and the rhythmic breathing will melt away what first sat down on the mat with you. Gracefully, slowly, and gently, the nature of your mind will be focused on a rejuvenating feeling that grows with every inhale and exhale. It’s a place of peace and serenity. An hour goes by so quickly, and it’s an hour you will yearn for more of as you go about the remainder of your day with an intention, alertness, and awareness you will want to know better. Your friends were right, and you will feel the benefits of mindfulness meditation after only one hour with Paloma. It’s a good thing she offers a few classes throughout your getaway.
