Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Introduces Its Own New Takes on Classic Summer Fun
FARMINGTON, PA (June 15, 2017) – It’s summer vacation time – at last! – and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort reveals a lineup of family fun aimed at making a visit here even more amazing and memorable than ever before. The resort has managed to reinvent some classic summer traditions and make them part of the unique guest experience for which the resort is justly famous.
Nemacolin is pleased to present all-new Weekend Kick-off Parties on Friday nights this summer, plus a series of family Movie Nights on select Saturdays throughout the season. And because there’s no end to the fun at this 2,00o-acre playground in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, the resort’s new Midway will open soon, bringing the look and flavors of a small-town carnival to the mountain.
Nearly every Friday from Memorial Day to Labor Day*, Nemacolin hosts a Weekend Kick-off Party at its Sundial Lodge. The event is a mash-up of a backyard barbeque, summer concert series and adventure day camp. Dinner is served on the lawn, allowing families to witness a spectacular sunset while they sit at tables decked out with red-and-white checkered tablecloths and lanterns. The menu includes everything that’s expected at a picnic … and then some. Guests enjoy Caesar salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, potato salad, cole slaw, sliced watermelon, smoked spare ribs, fried chicken, barbeque salmon, cornbread, buttermilk biscuits, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. Desserts include strawberry shortcake, a selection of cookies and – of course – S’mores that guests make themselves as they settle around a fire pit.
Featured bands offer a different genre of music each week, from reggae to ‘80s classics. The Sundial Lodge is home to the resort’s adventure activities, so guests can spend the evening enjoying reduced admission prices of just $10 per session on the rock-climbing wall or the resort’s QuickJump attraction. A bounce house is available with no admission fee. The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and is the perfect way for guests to begin unwinding for their weekend getaways. Each party requires advance reservations and costs $39 per adult and $15 per child (ages 4 through 12).
For those who remember spending summer evenings at the drive-in theater, Nemacolin taps into the nostalgia by gathering families at either the Paradise Pool or Sundial Lodge on select Saturday nights to catch a kid-friendly movie. Movies will be shown at 9 p.m. on June 17, July 3, July 15, July 29, August 19 and September 2; drinks and snacks are available for purchase at the pool, and blankets are available for purchase at the lodge. Movie selections include “Finding Dory,” “Moana,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “The Secret Life of Pets,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” and “Trolls.” No advance reservation is required. And best of all, since there’s no admission fee for the movies, kids can drift off under the stars without Mom and Dad worrying about the cost of a ticket going to waste.
Guests often marvel that they can find every sort of vacation adventure at Nemacolin … except perhaps a trip to the beach. There may not be sand, but this summer the resort introduces the Midway, a new miniature boardwalk-style carnival with an amazing view of the Laurel Highlands. With its array of kid-friendly games and favorite carnival foods, the resort has managed to capture one more aspect of family-focused fun this summer. Guests can purchase tickets from a booth just like they’d find at a local carnival and try their hand at classic games like tossing ping pong balls into a fish bowl, throwing darts at balloons or squirting water at targets. Of course there are fantastic prizes … including a coveted “Fat Bird” plush, which pays tribute to the resort’s beloved mascot. And the resort is introducing a customized food truck to sell such favorites as cotton candy, corn dogs, gyros and fried pickles. The Midway will be open from 12 noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; concessions are available starting at 1 p.m. each day.
A visit to Nemacolin is special any time of the year, but these new summer activities are aimed at helping adult guests recapture some favorite traditions while introducing younger visitors to old-fashioned family fun that’s sure to create special memories.

*The Weekend Kick-off Party will not take place on June 23, July 14 and August 18 due to private events.
