Nemacolin Is Home to Extensive Art Collection and Creative Activities
On-Site Gallery Currently Featuring Work of Inspirational Pittsburgh Artist

FARMINGTON, PA (July 21, 2016) – Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is known for a lot of things – its award-winning spa, its Pete Dye-designed golf course, its recent appearance on ABC’s The Bachelorette, the fact that its Lautrec restaurant is one of just 27 dining venues to earn Forbes Five-Stars and AAA Five-Diamonds … the list goes on and on.

A highlight that sometimes doesn’t make it to that long list of bragging rights is the fact that the resort is home to a $45 million art collection that’s completely accessible to guests and the general public via a free art tour that takes place at 3:30 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. Guests interested in a more in-depth experience may enjoy the Curator’s Tour, which is available each Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at a charge of $30 per person, including a glass of wine.

Among the stops on these tours is the Nemacolin Gallery, which features a rotating “artist exhibition,” where the works of a particular artist are featured for a few months at a time. These works are available for sale at the Chateau Signature boutique retail shop, which is located in the resort’s Chateau Lafayette. A great way for potential buyers to get a feel for the featured artist is by attending a “Meet the Artist” session.

Through October 4, artist Johno Prascak will be highlighted in a “Bold Strokes Showcase.” Prascak will be available at a “Meet the Artist” session during some upcoming Saturdays – July 23, August 6 and August 20 –from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Visitors can meet him in person and hear his story of how he used art as a form of therapy to recover from a complicated surgery when he was in his 20s.

Prascak infuses a bit of his hometown of Pittsburgh into every piece he creates – quite literally – by mixing sand from the Monongahela River into his acrylic enamel paints. The result is a signature coarse texture that brings a vibrancy and depth to his work. He’s known for his use of brilliant color and bold strokes, hence the name of his one-man show at Nemacolin.

After Prascak’s exhibition, Nemacolin Gallery will feature the work of Claire Hardy, who’s having a return engagement at the resort from October 6 through January 8, 2017. Also in 2017, the Gallery will feature Fabrizio Gerbio, who’s from Italy, from March 7 through June 18 and Seth Clark, who transplanted from New England to Pittsburgh, from June 20 through September 10.

For guests who’d like to try their hand at creating their own works of art, Nemacolin offers a “Paint & Sip” program in which participants get an art lesson while enjoying wine or sparkling water. For the younger set, “My Little Masterpiece” is a family-friendly program that couples art class with a milk-and-cookie treat. These sessions are held at the resort’s on-site art studio.
