Adds dog sledding as newest winter offering
Farmington, PA (December 9, 2005) — Mystic Mountain at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is open a week earlier than scheduled for area skiers and snowboarders. With the cold temperatures and natural snowfall over the past few weeks, plus extensive snowmaking on the part of the resort, all slopes and the snow tubing run are ready for skiers.
Snowmaking is a strong point for Mystic Mountain. Utilizing all new snowmaking equipment purchased this year, Mystic Mountain is able to position snowmaking efforts to the slopes and specific areas where it is needed. Gone are the 80 snowmaking towers that used to dot the slopes; Mystic Mountain now utilizes 29 portable SMI Super Polecat Fan snow guns.
“Our system is very efficient with 100 percent snowmaking capabilities,” said Jon Pitcavage, director of activities for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. “These new snow guns can be moved to any location to provide better snow coverage on all ten slopes and trails as well as on the snow tubing park. Plus, they give us the bonus of being able to make snow in temperatures up to 29 degrees; seven degrees warmer than what we could do in previous years.”
Mystic Mountain is a 25-acre winter sports complex offering downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and snow tubing on ten slopes and trails, and a half pipe for snowboarding. The mountain is serviced by three lifts: a quad chair, a beginner tow, and a surface lift in the snow tubing park. The newest winter activity at Mystic Mountain is dog sledding, with rides available every other weekend through April 2006. Dog sled rides are operated by HuskyPower Dog Sledding out of Accident, MD. Rides are offered Friday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the hour, and are one hour in length – 20 minutes for an education/introductory session where guests can meet the dogs, followed by a 30 minute ride on trails throughout Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Dog sledding at Nemacolin does not require snow; if snow levels are too low, rides go out on special “sleds on wheels.”
