Farmington, PA (December 15, 2006) — Nemacolin Woodlands Resort announced today that ski season for the resort’s Mystic Mountain will now open on Friday, December 22 – weather permitting. The recent warm temperatures experienced around the Pittsburgh region have impacted the resort’s existing snow base. Originally schedule to open today – December 15 – the ski staff had built up an average of three to five feet of snow in the weeks since Thanksgiving, but a good portion of that has dissipated in the last week of warm temperatures.
Mystic Mountain is a 25-acre winter sports complex offering downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and snow tubing on ten slopes and trails. The mountain is serviced by three lifts: a quad chair, a beginner tow, and a surface lift in the snow tubing park.
“We are watching the weather predictions closely,” says Jon Pitcavage, director of recreation for the resort. “As soon as the temperatures reach a steady 28 degrees, we will be back on the slopes making snow. Right now, we anticipate ski, snowboard and tubing activities to be available for Christmas. We certainly encourage skiers to call our Snow Report phone line at 724-329-6982 to keep current on Mystic Mountain ’s status.”
Mystic Mountain is a complete winter sports facility with equipment rental, a ski retail shop, ski and snowboarding lessons, and the Snow Monsters snow camp for children (ages 4 to 12). Night skiing is also a popular offering, with the slopes completely illuminated and reduced pricing offered on passes and rental equipment. The mountain is one of the most beginner-friendly ski mountains in southwestern Pennsylvania , with a gentle vertical drop of 300 feet.
