Weekend features dog sledding and Two Below Duo Adventure Race
Farmington, PA (December 18, 2006) – Mystic Mountain at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is taking a new approach to the traditional WinterFest Weekend with adventure as the focus for the resort’s Jan. 26 – 28, 2007 event. Rather than doing the typical ski weekend, Nemacolin instead is showcasing winter golf, dog sledding and an extreme winter adventure competition.
“We really wanted to offer something different with our WinterFest this year,” says Jon Pitcavage, director of activities at the luxury resort southeast of Pittsburgh. “For years, ski resorts have focused on skiing and snowboarding and the other typical winter sports. Nemacolin offers so much more than that, and this year’s WinterFest will introduce people to other great winter recreation options.”
Pitcavage adds that the activities he is most excited about are the dog sledding races and the Two Below Duo Adventure Race. The dog sledding races will feature Nemacolin’s own team of dogs as well as teams from other areas of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.
For the Two Below Duo Adventure Race, Nemacolin has partnered with Grassroots Racing out of Pittsburgh, which organizes extreme adventure races. The Two Below Duo is a four-stage outdoor adventure competition for teams of two that can be completed in all four stages or in individual stages. Details on each stage are not released until one hour prior to each event to ensure teams have equal time to plan their strategy for each race. Cost to compete are $90 per person ($180 per team) for the full race weekend; $30 per person ($60 per team) to enter a single event; and $15 per person ($30 per team) to enter only the Friday night Prologue event. Teams can register by calling Grassroots Racing at 412-759-5333, or by registering on the day of the event(s). Special room rates at Nemacolin are available for racers.
Nemacolin’s WinterFest events start on Friday, Jan. 26 and run through Sunday, Jan. 28. Froggy radio will broadcast live from the resort’s Mystic Mountain on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Fans can come out and meet their favorite on-air personality and win prizes from Froggy and Nemacolin.
