Farmington, PA (November 30, 2006) — Mystic Mountain at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort opens for the winter season on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006. Area skiers and snowboarders can hit the slopes every weekend (Friday through Monday) through March 5, 2007 – weather permitting. The facility is open to the public, and ski enthusiasts do not have to stay overnight at the resort to enjoy the wide array of offerings.
Mystic Mountain is a 25-acre winter sports complex offering downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and snow tubing on ten slopes and trails. The mountain is serviced by three lifts: a quad chair, a beginner tow, and a surface lift in the snow tubing park. Snowmaking is a strong point for Mystic Mountain, with 29 SMI Polecat, Super Polecat and Viking snow guns blanketing the slopes when snowfall levels are low.
“Our system is very efficient with 100 percent snowmaking capabilities for all ten slopes and trails, plus the snow tubing park,” said Jon Pitcavage, director of activities for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. “The SMI snow guns can be moved to any location, and they give us the bonus of being able to make snow in temperatures up to 29 degrees; seven degrees warmer than what we could do in previous years.”
Mystic Mountain is a complete winter sports facility with equipment rental, a ski retail shop, ski and snowboarding lessons, and the Snow Monsters snow camp for children (ages 4 to 12). Night skiing is also a popular offering, with the slopes completely illuminated and reduced pricing offered on passes and rental equipment. The mountain is one of the most beginner-friendly ski mountains in southwestern Pennsylvania, with a gentle vertical drop of 300 feet.
