Press Room- Archived Press Releases: Dogsledding Leads Winter Adventure Options At Nemacolin Woodlands Resort

Farmington, PA (November 30, 2006) — Outdoor adventurers can take to sleds pulled by dogs, to rugged trails driving extreme machines and to the sky with target shooting this winter at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Pennsylvania’s premier Four-Star/Four-Diamond resort boasts dog sledding, an Off-Road Driving Academy with Hummer® H1s, H2s and Toyota FJ Cruisers, and the top sporting clays facility in the country.

Dogsledding was first offered at Nemacolin during the 2005 winter season. Response was so successful to the program that the resort now owns its own full team of dogs and sledding equipment, including the German-built Touri cart – a sled on wheels – that allows for dogsledding trips when snow levels are too low for the standard sled. Sledding trips will be available from December through March, seven days a week (weather permitting). Trips are 30 minutes long, at a cost of $125 per ride, and are limited to a total weight of 275 lbs. Children must weigh at least 45 lbs. and have to be accompanied by an adult. Kennel tours are also available daily from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for guests to meet the dogs on the sled team. Cost is $8 per adult and $5 per child, ages 12 and under.

For riding of a more mechanical style, Nemacolin’s Off-Road Driving Academy takes adventurers through custom-designed courses and 18 miles of rugged trails. Drivers test vehicles at one of three driving experience levels – Beginner and Intermediate in an Hummer® H2 or Toyota FJ Cruiser, and Advanced in an Hummer® H1. Off-roading at Nemacolin is available seven days a week, and would only closed in extreme ice and snow conditions. Cost for the Off-Road Driving experience is $300 per vehicle for Beginner and Intermediate and $400 per vehicle for Advanced. Prices include up to three people. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license.

The Shooting Academy at Nemacolin Woodlands tests shooting skills with 30 different shooting stations that use sporting clays to replicate most bird and fowl flight patterns. The course is open six days a week, weather permitting – even in snowy conditions. Shotguns and ammunition are included in the pricing, or shooters can bring their own guns and ammunition. Special educational clinics are held each Saturday morning at 8:30 for children, teaching them gun safety and an introduction to the sport of sporting clays. Children must weight at least 100 lbs. to shoot. The Shooting Academy also offers private lessons for shooters of any skill level. Cost for shooting sessions including equipment starts at $115; a shooter’s own equipment, pricing is $70; and private lessons start at $130. A course trapper/guide accompanies each shooter that goes out on the course.

Reservations are required for all the winter adventure offerings at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, and can be made by calling 1-866.399.6957. All activities are open to both resort and day guests.
