Joyce Werwie Perry
Oil on Canvas
|Red Apples, 2017|
Oil on Panel
|Pressure Cook, 2017|
The works by Peggi Habets and Joyce Werwie Perry are based on the time spent in the kitchens of Lautrec. Each artist interpreted their vison of the hustle, skill and artistry of the Lautrec staff as they prepared dinners for Lautrec diners. Habets and Perry quietly observed and photographed the kitchen staff in action. Once back in their studios, their photos served as source material resulting in beautifully executed finished paintings.
MEET THE ARTISTS
JOYCE WERWIE PERRY | Pittsburgh, PA
Regardless of the subject, Joyce’s work is a tug of war between realistic and abstract elements. Texture and contrast of color in the paintings is achieved through rapid application and detraction of oil with knives – a technique she developed in her endeavor to add immediacy and freshness to the work. This extreme variation of texture enables her to inject emotion and empathy for the subject.
MARA LIGHT | Pittsburgh, PA
A contemporary figurative painter living and working in Pittsburgh, PA, Light was born in New York, 1970, and raised in California. Her food themed still life paintings are oils on panel and were created using traditional, academic techniques. Mara has been prominently featured as a Curator's Pick with Saatchi Online Gallery and has been represented by galleries from LA to the east coast.
PEGGI HABETS | Pittsburgh, PA
Peggi Habets paints inspiring people and everyday life - individuals who have stories to tell, struggles to overcome, or a passion to share. Instead of realistically depicting every detail, these paintings blend realism with ethereal shapes and forms, preserving enough ambiguity to allow the viewer to experience the painting in their own personal way. Her paintings are constantly evolving with the challenge to say more with less - minimal brushstrokes, fluid washes, and pure pigment are essential to that evolution.
